Thanda Foundation’s primary focus is on job creation, the prevention and treatment of HIV / AIDS and conservation of wilderness areas within such impoverished communities. Thanda Foundation also focuses on the promotion and preservation of the cultural heritage of such impoverished communities.
The objects, purposes and activities of Thanda Foundation are:
Job Creation
- The training of unemployed persons within impoverished communities for the purpose of enabling them to obtain employment.
- The fostering of entrepreneurship amongst micro and small enterprises within impoverished communities.
- The provision of adult basic education and training, including literacy and numeric education.
AIDS
- The provision of health care services to impoverished communities, focusing on the care, counselling or treatment of persons afflicted with HIV / AIDS, including the care or counselling of their families and dependents.
- The prevention of HIV infection within the impoverished communities, including the provision of preventative and education programmes relating to HIV / AIDS.
- The provision of primary health care education, sex education and family planning within the impoverished communities.
Conservation
- Engaging in the conservation, rehabilitation or protection of the wilderness areas within impoverished communities, including the establishment of a Conservation Research Centre.
- The promotion and implementation of Community Based Natural Resource Management programmes to create environmental awareness of the natural resources within impoverished communities.
Other
- The establishment and equipping of clinics and crèches, community centres, sports facilities or any other similar facilities within impoverished communities.
- The advancement and promotion of the Zulu culture and customs, including the establishment of a Zulu Cultural Theatre, a Zulu Cultural Centre and the Royal Council of Ingxotha.

In order to achieve these goals, Thanda Foundation works closely with a number of partners, including:
- Thanda Safari Private Game Reserve, a 14 000 hectare luxury Big 5 Game Reserve in northern KwaZulu Natal;
- Star for Life, a nonprofit organization where coaches engage and educate school children in southern Africa to strengthen students’ self-esteem and motivate them to invest in their education and make a wise life decision
- Project Rhino, an association of leading conservation agencies, state and community game reserves, rhino owners and anti-poaching specialists working together to conserve South Africa’s wildlife
- Africa Nature Training, an established South African company offering a range of professional guiding courses as well as educational experiences for nature enthusiasts.
